Frozen Koi Pond 36/365 Project

by Trina Baker on February 8th, 2010

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

It snowed here a bit today and I took this photo of my friend’s Koi pond.  I like the textures and contrast created by the bits of snow and rock.  I ran the seaweed action from Ms. Nelly Nero, in photoshop,  to adjust the tint of the image. The sun is supposed to make an appearance tomorrow and I am dying to get out and take some photos.  Until then I am searching for a new blog template.  My ideal template would be a photo gallery on the main page with the blog on a separate tab and of course it has to have a certain style.   Much harder to find than you would think.

Dried Fern 35/365 Project

by Trina Baker on February 8th, 2010

Today I wanted to try working with the popular, and free, Gimp Image editor. While I have a copy of  Photoshop that I use on my desktop in my studio, I wanted to have an image editor on my little Acer Netbook to edit my photos when I am out and about.  The Gimp is perfect for this task.  First of all it doesn’t require a lot of RAM.  Secondly, it does all of the image editing that you get with Photoshop without the cost.  Another wonderful thing about the Gimp is that it has scripts that you can run that are similar to the actions in Photoshop.  There is also a great plugin called FX Foundry which has 115 of these scripts that range from simply converting an image to black and white to converting images to pencil sketches.  In this image I used the cross processing and lomography scripts.  I could not figure out how to customize these scripts so I just used them as is.  I will keep experimenting and update as I learn.

Snowy Tree Tops 33/365 Project

by Trina Baker on February 5th, 2010

Yesterday’s post did not happen. I did take a photo for my 365 Project  and you can view it here. It is snowing here today and I took out my Sigma 18-200mm lens with the Nikon D80 so I could get close to these fluffy tree tops.  I then ran a whipped cream action form Nelly Nero and added a sepia toned layer to give it some depth.  Doesn’t that snow look like big tufts of whipped cream?  I think all this snow and lack of sunshine is making me a bit crazy.  Bring on the Spring!

Pink Tinted Orchid 31/365 Project

by Trina Baker on February 3rd, 2010

I took more photos at the grocery today.  This time an employee came up to me and asked  ”Are you a photographer?’ and I replied “Yes I am.” and promptly handed her a card. I am a shameless self promoter.  I made sure to ask her if it was okay if I did this, which I usually don’t ask permission, and she said it was fine.  I took two photos of these Orchids and had a hard time deciding which one to post today.  I liked the tint and rustic sensuousness of this image.  Flowers can be so sensual don’t you think?  You can view the other photo here.  I will be adding both images to my etsy shop later today.  Also,  as a little experiment I am going to offer 8×10 prints on canvas of some of my work.

Spoons in Jar 30/365 Project

by Trina Baker on February 2nd, 2010

A still life image for today with some post processing in photoshop.  I really like how the one spoon stands out in this image and the hint of my favorite bowl in the background.   Hopefully the sun will make an appearance this afternoon and I can go for a little photo walk with my new lens.  Bring on Spring!
